In summer 2019 we are organizing A Holocaust Journey, our 6th annual Berlin & Poland Study Abroad program and class, directed by Professor Judy LaPietra. The program will last from June 14-24 and will provide students an opportunity to study historical sites related to Holocaust history. It will focus on the richness and diversity of pre-war Jewish life in Germany and Poland and on the complexity of the history of the Holocaust. We will visit a range of authentic sites of learning and remembrance important to Holocaust history, including the Topography of Terror Museum, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Oskar Schindler’s factory, the former ghetto in Krakow, and the Sachsenhausen, Plaszow, and Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and death camps. Deadline for application is February 1, 2019.
The course is structured around specific themes, but there will be free time in most cities to explore museums, exhibits, restaurants, and German and Polish culture on your own. This Global Studies/HGHR travel course is open to all UNC Charlotte students. While there are no prerequisites for this course, prior knowledge of Holocaust history is recommended.
